A bizarre yet amusing incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district has gone viral, where a monkey turned into an unintentional “cash dispenser” inside the Bidhuna Tehsil premises. The unusual event left locals in shock and netizens amused, as the animal snatched a bag containing Rs 80,000 and scattered currency notes from a tree.

How it happened

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon around 1 pm. Rohitash Chandra, a resident of Dondapur village, had arrived at the tehsil office with his son Anuj Kumar to register land documents. They had kept Rs 80,000 in cash inside the moped’s storage compartment.

While Rohitash was busy discussing paperwork with his lawyer, Govind Dubey, a monkey sneaked towards the vehicle, opened the storage, and grabbed the cash-filled bag. The animal then climbed a tree inside the tehsil compound and, moments later, began tossing the notes into the air, creating a surreal scene.

Chaos as money rains down

As soon as the cash started flying, people present at the tehsil rushed to collect the notes, leading to chaos on the premises. Several bystanders pulled out their mobile phones to record the dramatic moment, and within hours, the video began circulating widely on social media.

The frenzy lasted several minutes before Rohitash and others managed to salvage some of the money. By the end of the incident, only Rs 52,000 was recovered, while the remaining Rs 28,000 allegedly went missing, taken away by those who had grabbed the scattered notes.

Officials confirm the incident

Officials later confirmed the unusual theft and noted that it occurred in the presence of multiple witnesses. The incident has since sparked conversations about security lapses and the growing menace of monkeys at government offices in Uttar Pradesh.

Local residents pointed out that monkey nuisance has been a long-standing problem in the area, with incidents ranging from stolen food to damaged documents, but this was the first time such a large cash theft had been reported.

Social media reactions

The viral video has triggered a wave of reactions online. While some users found humour in the situation, calling it a scene “straight out of a Bollywood movie,” others raised concerns about law and order, questioning how easily cash could be lost in a public office.

Memes, jokes, and edited clips of the monkey “showering money” have flooded platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, making it one of the most talked-about viral stories from Uttar Pradesh in recent days.

What’s next?

Authorities are now reportedly reviewing CCTV footage and witness accounts to identify those who picked up the scattered cash and left the premises. Meanwhile, locals have urged the administration to implement measures to curb monkey nuisance in tehsil and court premises to prevent such bizarre incidents in the future.
