India is rolling out an ambitious plan to revive tourism in Kashmir as part of its Vision 2025 roadmap, aiming to transform the scenic Himalayan region into a year-round global destination. The strategy includes a blend of infrastructure modernization, enhanced safety measures, and targeted promotions.

🏔 Why Kashmir, Why Now?

Often dubbed “Paradise on Earth”, Kashmir has seen a turbulent decline in tourism due to security concerns over the past decade. But with geopolitical stabilization and rising demand for offbeat travel experiences, the Indian government sees an opportunity to reignite interest in the region.

🛤 Key Pillars of the Revival Plan

1. Improved Connectivity

  • Launch of Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express
  • Planned completion of Udhampur-Baramulla railway by 2026
  • Better road access to Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg

2. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)

  • Joint ventures to develop eco-resorts and boutique stays
  • Encouraging investment in adventure tourism and wellness retreats
  • Training local youth as hospitality professionals and guides

3. Security Enhancements

  • Deployment of tourist police units and 24/7 helplines
  • CCTV surveillance in high-footfall zones
  • Stronger coordination between local authorities and travel operators

4. Cultural Tourism & Events

  • Promotion of Sufi music festivals, handicrafts fairs, and culinary experiences
  • Integration of heritage sites and apple tourism circuits

✈️ New Campaigns & Promotions

The Ministry of Tourism is launching a global campaign under “Kashmir Calling 2025”, targeting travelers from:

  • The Middle East, with direct flights from UAE and Qatar
  • Europe, through tie-ups with adventure tour operators
  • Domestic metro cities, via digital-first campaigns

💬 Government Speaks

Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy stated:

“Kashmir is not just a destination, it’s an emotion for India. We’re determined to ensure every traveler feels safe, welcome, and amazed.”

📈 Economic Outlook

  • Goal: 10 million annual tourists by 2027
  • Expected to generate over 2 lakh direct jobs
  • Estimated boost of ₹10,000 crore to local GDP
