Vivo has officially confirmed key camera specifications for its upcoming S50 series, promising notable upgrades in photography capabilities. According to a recent announcement by a Vivo executive, all models in the series will feature the Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto sensor, paired with the same portrait imaging algorithm used in the brand’s flagship devices.
S50 Series Overview
The S50 series succeeds the Vivo S30 lineup and is expected to include two models: the Vivo S50 and the Vivo S50 Pro Mini. Both devices are designed to enhance Vivo’s reputation for strong imaging performance, particularly in portraits and selfies.
Sony IMX882 Periscope Sensor Confirmed
Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao revealed in a Weibo post that all S50 series phones will sport a 50MP Sony IMX882 1/1.95-inch periscope telephoto camera. The devices will leverage the same “clear and natural portrait algorithm” used in flagship models, which aims to deliver improved facial detail and superior portrait quality—a significant upgrade for the S-series.
Camera Setup Expected to Mirror S30 Series
Reports indicate that the Vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini will likely retain a camera setup similar to the S30 series:
Vivo S30:
- Main: 50MP (Sony LYT700V sensor, 1/1.56-inch, OIS)
- 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS
- 8MP ultrawide lens (106° FoV)
Vivo S30 Pro Mini:
- Primary: 50MP (Sony IMX921 sensor, 1/1.56-inch)
- 50MP periscope telephoto
- 8MP ultrawide
- 50MP front camera
The S50 series is expected to continue this trend, featuring high-resolution sensors across all key lenses, catering to users who prioritize photography.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for S50 Pro Mini
The Vivo S50 Pro Mini will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. With the chipset’s official launch imminent, the S50 Pro Mini could be among the first smartphones to feature this new processor.
The Vivo S50 series, with its upgraded camera system and high-end performance specs, is shaping up to be a strong contender in the mid-premium smartphone segment.
