Visakhapatnam to Host ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Matches in New Cricket Push
Visakhapatnam – June 9, 2025: The City of Destiny is poised to become a central venue for women’s cricket glory as the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam has officially been named one of the host grounds for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. The stadium will host five World Cup matches and one ODI as part of India’s broader effort to expand women’s cricket infrastructure.

The announcement was made by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, who confirmed that Visakhapatnam’s successful stadium upgrades have earned it a prime slot on the international schedule.
Rapid Upgrades, Big Rewards
The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) completed the renovations in just 45 days, enhancing lighting systems, dressing rooms, pitch quality, and spectator amenities. These upgrades met strict ICC standards, making the ACA-VDCA a viable venue for world-class women’s cricket.
The state government’s active support in funding and facilitation was instrumental in fast-tracking the improvements.
Strategic Push for Cricket in Andhra Pradesh
In addition to World Cup hosting rights, the ACA revealed plans to build cricket stadiums in every parliamentary constituency across Andhra Pradesh. The move aims to:
- Promote grassroots participation
- Boost women’s representation in cricket
- Prepare the state for future BCCI and ICC events
The Andhra Premier League (APL), a domestic T20 league launched recently, has already generated fresh local talent and fan enthusiasm.
City’s Cricketing Legacy Grows
Visakhapatnam has long been a popular venue for men’s international cricket. Hosting the Women’s World Cup is seen as a milestone toward positioning the city as an all-gender cricket hub.
“This is not just about five matches. It’s about transforming how the city and state view women’s cricket,” said a BCCI official during the announcement.
Boost to Tourism and Economy
With matches likely to draw international attention, the event is expected to bring a surge in tourism, hospitality, and city branding. Hotels, travel agencies, and local businesses are already prepping for the influx of fans and international teams.
