Angelo Mathews confirmed that he will play his final Test against Bangladesh in Galle, which will be the first of the two-match series at home for Sri Lanka, marking the start of the new cycle. Mathews has represented Sri Lanka in 118 red-ball matches, while captaining them in 34 of them.

Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The upcoming Test against Bangladesh in Galle, starting June 17, will be his final red-ball match.

Mathews shared an emotional message, saying:
🗣️ “With a grateful heart and unforgettable memories… it is time for me to say goodbye to the most cherished format of the game.”

Mathews, who has been a pillar in Sri Lanka’s middle order since 2009, confirmed he will continue to play white-ball cricket for Sri Lanka.

His departure comes just weeks after Virat Kohli also stepped away from the format — and Mathews is only 13 runs short of surpassing Kohli’s Test runs at home.
