PM Modi’s J&K Visit LIVE: Pakistan Attacked ‘Humanity’ and ‘Kashmiriyat’ in Pahalgam, Says PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several key infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir and condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, calling it an assault on the region’s ‘humanity’ and ‘Kashmiriyat’.
Modi first inaugurated the world’s highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge, built at a cost of ₹1,486 crore over eight years. He then flagged off the Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Srinagar, which is scheduled to begin operations on June 7.

Key Highlights:
- The Chenab Rail Bridge stands at a height of 359 meters, which is 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
- The Prime Minister walked on the bridge while holding the national flag.
- India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge over the Anji River was also inaugurated during the visit.
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were present.
PM Modi stated that the Pahalgam terror attack was a conspiracy by Pakistan to harm the livelihood of Kashmiris and disrupt tourism. He emphasized that India will never bow down to terrorism, and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are united in this fight.
He also announced additional compensation for those affected by Pakistani shelling — ₹2 lakh for fully damaged houses and ₹1 lakh for partially damaged ones.
These infrastructure projects mark a turning point in the development of Jammu and Kashmir and will boost spiritual tourism and economic activity in the region.
Political Reactions:
- The BJP criticized the Congress party for delaying these projects during its tenure, stating that the Modi government revived and completed them with focused efforts.
- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the flagging off of the Vande Bharat train has made the “Kashmir to Kanyakumari” connectivity a reality, not just a slogan.
