Hyderabad on Alert: Incessant Rain Floods Roads, Disrupts Traffic
Old City: Roads including Engine Bowli, Chatrinaka, Uppuguda, Bandlaguda, Khilwat Road, Aghapura, and Bahadurpura were submerged under knee-deep water, forcing two-wheelers to stop and causing significant delays

- Western Suburbs: Lingampally, Chandanagar, University of Hyderabad, and Serilingampally saw cellars, apartments, and shopping complexes inundated, with residents pumping water out manually
- Santosh Nagar & Champapet: DRF teams were deployed to clear waterlogged roads where autos and scooters were stranded mid-flood
Response Initiatives
- DRF & GHMC Teams began dewatering operations from early morning, using pumps and manpower to drain flooded lanes in the Old City
- HYDRAA has taken charge of monsoon emergency work, tasked with clearing catchpits, dewatering flood zones, and coordinating agencies
- Citizen Concerns: Residents have raised alarms over blocked nalas and encroachments that exacerbate flooding, particularly in Rasoolpura, Chikoti Gardens, and other urban pockets
Weather Outlook
The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for continued heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy showers expected through June 15 across Telangana and neighbouring regions
What’s Causing the Flooding?
- Poor drainage infrastructure compounded by monsoon surge.
- Encroachments blocking nalas and drains, leading to stagnation.
- Urban runoff from intense localized convection in key regions
