Delhi Government to Distribute Pensions to Beneficiaries from July

The Social Welfare Department of Delhi has wrapped up district‑wise, door-to-door surveys to verify applications under the Old Age and Disability Pension Schemes. Officials confirm the final phase is underway, with disbursements set to begin in the first week of July


How the Disbursement Will Work

  • Timeline: The first pension payments will go out in early July, once verification is fully complete .
  • Bank Transfers: Verified beneficiaries will receive their payments directly into their bank accounts.
  • On-site Help: Pension-window officers will assist new or digitally inexperienced applicants at department offices

Who Is Eligible & Additional Support

  • Age criteria: Senior citizens aged 60–69 and those 70+ are included.
  • Disability benefits: Persons with disabilities also qualify.
  • Documentation checks: Residency (minimum five years in Delhi), family income (below ₹1 lakh annually), legislator recommendation, and verified bank details are mandatory

Current Numbers & Budget

  • Cap vs registered: Scheme allows for 5.3 lakh pensioners aged 60+; currently 4.3 lakh are registered
  • Pending applications: About 80,000 new applicants from December 2024 are now being processed for disbursement
  • Funding: Delhi spends over ₹1,200 crore annually on these pensions

Recent Enhancements & Future Plans

  • Pension increase proposed: ₹500 hike being considered—bringing senior pensions to ₹2,500 (60–69) and ₹3,000 (70+) and increasing disability pensions accordingly
  • Re-verification drives: Authorities are conducting re-verification to remove ineligible recipients and include deserving ones
