Punjab was placed on high alert after two explosions occurred within hours near sensitive security installations in Jalandhar and Amritsar late Tuesday night, prompting a multi-agency investigation.

The incidents took place near the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar and the Khassa Cantonment area in Amritsar, raising concerns over a possible coordinated security breach.

Explosion Outside BSF HQ in Jalandhar

The first incident occurred around 8:00 PM outside the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar. A parked Honda Activa scooter suddenly caught fire and exploded, triggering panic in the area.

Initial police statements suggested it could be a case of accidental fire. However, preliminary findings have raised suspicion of a possible explosive device, though officials have not yet confirmed this.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said:

CCTV footage reportedly shows the scooter exploding moments before it was engulfed in flames.

No casualties were reported. The area was immediately cordoned off, and forensic teams, bomb disposal squads, and dog units were deployed.

Scooter Owner Under Questioning

The scooter rider, identified as Gurpreet Singh, is a 22-year-old delivery worker who frequently visits the area.

According to initial statements:

  • He had parked the scooter shortly before the incident
  • The vehicle caught fire suddenly when he returned
  • He alerted his family and authorities immediately

Police confirmed he is cooperating with the investigation, and no wrongdoing has been established so far.

Second Blast Near Amritsar Cantonment

Approximately two hours later, at around 10:50 PM, another explosion was reported near the Khassa Cantonment in Amritsar.

Security forces responded swiftly, with local police, Army personnel, and bomb disposal teams reaching the site.

Amritsar SP Aditya S. Warrier said:

No injuries or fatalities were reported in this incident either.

Possible Use of Explosives Under Probe

While some early reports suggest the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), authorities have not officially confirmed this.

Investigators are examining multiple possibilities:

  • Whether explosive material was planted in the scooter
  • Whether the device was triggered remotely
  • Whether the Amritsar blast involved a thrown explosive object

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is currently analyzing samples from both sites.

High Alert Across Punjab

Given the proximity of both incidents to high-security installations, Punjab Police has:

  • Issued a statewide high alert
  • Increased security at military and border installations
  • Intensified vehicle checks and surveillance

Central agencies are also reportedly coordinating with state authorities to determine whether the incidents are linked.

What We Know So Far

  • Two blasts occurred within ~3 hours
  • Locations: Jalandhar (BSF HQ) and Amritsar (cantonment area)
  • No casualties reported
  • Cause of explosions still under investigation
  • Suspected use of explosives, but no official confirmation yet

Conclusion

The back-to-back explosions near key defence-linked areas have raised serious security concerns in Punjab. While early indicators point toward possible deliberate acts, officials have urged caution, stating that final conclusions will depend on forensic analysis.
