Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in New Delhi on Saturday to assess India’s preparedness in light of escalating tensions in West Asia.

This will be the third CCS meeting convened by the Prime Minister since March, underscoring the seriousness with which the government is monitoring the evolving geopolitical situation. The meeting is expected to review measures already implemented by various ministries and outline further steps to safeguard India’s strategic and economic interests.

Focus Areas: Energy, Supplies, and Economy

During previous CCS discussions, the government reviewed preparedness across multiple critical sectors, including:

  • Energy (LNG, LPG, and petroleum supplies)
  • Agriculture and fertilisers (especially for Kharif and Rabi seasons)
  • Aviation and shipping
  • Logistics and supply chains

Officials briefed the Prime Minister on steps taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential commodities, particularly energy resources, which are heavily influenced by developments in West Asia.

Ensuring Stability for Citizens

In earlier meetings, Narendra Modi emphasized that the government must:

  • Maintain steady access to essential goods for citizens
  • Prevent panic or shortages
  • Ensure accurate and timely public communication

He also directed ministries to counter misinformation and avoid rumor-driven disruptions, highlighting the importance of transparent communication during global crises.

High-Level Coordination Mechanism

To strengthen oversight, the government has already constituted an inter-ministerial group led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The group includes key figures such as:

  • Amit Shah (Home Minister)
  • Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance Minister)

This panel has been meeting regularly to evaluate risks and coordinate responses across sectors.

Why This Matters

West Asia is crucial for India due to:

  • Heavy dependence on oil and gas imports
  • Trade routes passing through the region
  • Presence of a large Indian diaspora
