A tragic accident took place on the Dhakherwa–Girijapuri highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday (November 26), when a speeding car reportedly lost control and plunged into the Sharda canal. Five people died in the incident, while one person was injured.

Incident Details and Rescue Efforts

According to initial reports, the vehicle was returning from a wedding celebration late Tuesday night when the driver lost control near a speed breaker. Local police and residents immediately rushed to the scene after learning about the accident. With the support of villagers, rescue teams managed to pull the car out of the canal following a challenging operation. Five occupants were found dead, and the injured survivor was taken to CHC Ramia Behrad hospital for treatment.

UP Chief Minister’s Response

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He instructed officials to ensure the injured individual receives immediate and proper medical care and directed the local administration to accelerate relief measures and provide all necessary assistance at the site.

Investigation and Aftermath

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Early indications suggest excessive speed and loss of control near a speed breaker may have contributed to the mishap. Authorities continue to assist the affected families and emphasize the importance of road safety to prevent similar tragedies.

Earlier, on November 25, eight people were injured in a bus accident in Lucknow after a collision with a truck near the Banthra police station area. The bus was traveling from Sultanpur to Etawah. According to Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajeev Dixit of Lok Bandhu Hospital, two individuals may have suffered fractures, but all injured passengers are stable and out of danger.
