New Delhi, November 24, 2025: Bollywood legend Dharmendra, the iconic “He-Man” of Indian cinema, passed away today in Mumbai at the age of 89. With a career spanning 65 years and over 300 films—from the critically acclaimed Satyakam to the cult classic Sholay—Dharmendra leaves behind a legacy that has shaped generations of actors and audiences alike.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences, noting that his work would continue to inspire young artists. “The demise of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Shri Dharmendra Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. One of the most popular actors, he delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long illustrious career. As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and admirers,” she posted on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Dharmendra as an iconic personality whose charm and depth enriched every role he played. “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role. His simplicity, humility, and warmth endeared him to millions. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister posted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Dharmendra’s loss as “irreparable,” remembering his journey from humble beginnings to legendary status. “Coming from an ordinary family, he created an indelible identity in the film industry. Dharmendra Ji was one of those rare actors whose every character came alive, winning hearts across generations. May God grant him eternal peace and strength to his family and admirers,” he wrote on X.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute, calling Dharmendra’s contribution to Indian cinema “unparalleled” and expressing condolences to his family and fans.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described Dharmendra as not just a talented actor but a simple, committed human being. “His work in films cannot be forgotten. The film industry has suffered a huge loss with his passing,” he said.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and UP CM Yogi Adityanath joined in mourning, highlighting Dharmendra’s versatility—from youthful romantic roles to intense characters—and the void his death leaves in Indian cinema.
Dharmendra, who was affectionately known as Bollywood’s He-Man, was 89 and would have turned 90 on December 8. He had been battling health issues for some time, spending periods in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital before his family decided to continue treatment at home earlier this month.
His passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema, leaving fans, colleagues, and the industry in deep grief.
