In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Urvashi addressed the criticism the song received on social media and shared her personal experience of working with Balakrishna.

According to Urvashi, the controversy started small but gradually became huge online because social media users continued discussing and sharing clips from the song. She said the issue “snowballed” over time, turning into a major internet debate.

Despite the backlash, Urvashi defended her co-star and described him as:

  • energetic,
  • fun-loving,
  • grounded,
  • and “very childlike” in real life.

She said that Balakrishna’s real personality is very different from the intense image often created by viral internet clips.

“He was very warm and easy to talk to”

During the interview, Urvashi explained that many people may feel nervous around Balakrishna initially because of his strong public persona, but she found him warm and approachable on set.

She said:

  • he enjoys joking around,
  • loves children,
  • and carries a playful personality off-camera.

Urvashi also shared a personal memory, revealing that Balakrishna was the first person to wish her on Valentine’s Day the previous year. She used this example to explain that he is caring and thoughtful behind the scenes.

The actress also praised the action scenes in Daaku Maharaaj, calling them one of the most exciting parts of the film.

Why did “Dabidi Dibidi” become controversial?

The song became one of the most talked-about Telugu film songs online after its release. However, much of the attention came from criticism rather than praise.

1. Choreography criticism

Many viewers criticised the dance choreography, calling some movements:

  • awkward,
  • exaggerated,
  • and inappropriate.

Several clips from the song went viral across:

  • Instagram,
  • YouTube Shorts,
  • X (Twitter),
  • and Reddit.

Certain dance steps involving Balakrishna and Urvashi were heavily mocked in meme culture and reaction videos.

2. Debate over age gap

Another major issue discussed online was the large age difference between the lead actors.

At the time:

  • Balakrishna was in his 60s,
  • while Urvashi was around 30 years old.

Many social media users argued that the romantic chemistry and dance presentation looked uncomfortable because of this gap.

3. Balakrishna’s viral public image

The controversy became even bigger because Balakrishna already has a controversial online reputation due to:

  • viral public-event clips,
  • interactions with fans,
  • emotional speeches,
  • and aggressive moments captured on camera.

As a result, discussions around Dabidi Dibidi quickly expanded into broader debates about:

  • “mass hero culture,”
  • commercial Telugu cinema,
  • and portrayal of actresses in mainstream songs.

Urvashi’s earlier response to criticism

This is not the first time Urvashi defended the song.

In earlier interviews, she explained that:

  • the song was designed for a “mass commercial” audience,
  • the dance style is common in mainstream Telugu cinema,
  • and the team never expected such strong negative reactions.

She also stated:

According to her, the choreography was treated as regular commercial entertainment during filming.
