Operation Sindoor: Live Updates on India-Pakistan Escalation

A major escalation has unfolded along the India-Pakistan border following India’s precision strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Launched in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives, Operation Sindoor targeted nine high-value terror locations.

Key Developments:

  1. Indian Airstrikes:

    • India launched precision strikes on nine terror hideouts, eliminating at least 10 relatives of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four of his senior aides.

    • The strikes were carried out using drones and missiles and focused on assets in Pakistan and PoK.

  2. Pakistan’s Retaliation:

    • In response, Pakistan launched a barrage of artillery fire, drones, and missiles, targeting multiple locations across Jammu, including a strategic airstrip.

    • Indian security forces reported that all incoming missiles were intercepted by the S-400 air defence system, preventing significant damage.

  3. India’s Counter-Response:

    • India retaliated swiftly, deploying drones over Islamabad, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, striking additional military and terror-linked sites.

    • Indian forces also shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet in Rajasthan airspace.

  4. Civilian Impact:

    • Pakistan’s shelling in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district resulted in 16 civilian deaths and over 50 injuries.

    • India strongly condemned Pakistan for holding state funerals for terrorists, questioning the logic behind glorifying individuals responsible for cross-border violence.

  5. Diplomatic Statements:

    • Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri dismissed Pakistan’s accusations that Indian strikes targeted civilian or religious sites, reaffirming that only verified terror infrastructure was hit.
