Shaun Pollock Heaps Praise on South Africa After Dominant Test Series Showing Against India

Former South Africa cricketer Shaun Pollock has lauded the Proteas for their impressive performances across the two-match Test series against India, as the teams head into Day 4 of the second Test in Guwahati.

Temba Bavuma’s side has been in complete control throughout the series. After securing a convincing win in the opening Test, South Africa has continued to dominate the hosts in the second match as well.

Heading into Day 4, the Proteas hold a commanding lead of 314 runs and are well-positioned to set India a daunting target as they aim to clinch the series and create history on Indian soil.

Speaking about the team’s performance, former fast bowler Shaun Pollock praised South Africa for maintaining a high level of consistency.

“I suppose the one thing about not making India follow on is that they’ll be setting India something. If they chase down 450, I would be very surprised based on what we’ve seen. It’s all about points for the WTC now. Coming on this tour, if you said South Africa could walk away with 24 points from a tour of India, they would have jumped and bitten your hand off,” Pollock said in an interview with Cricbuzz.

Pollock Confident in South Africa’s Continued Rise

Pollock further highlighted South Africa’s strong form in Test cricket, noting that the defending World Test Championship winners have answered their critics and are well-placed to build on their recent success.

“Particularly after the last WTC final, where they got there and people said, ‘Who have they beaten and where have they played?’ You look at it now—you go to Pakistan and draw the series, then come to India and possibly win both Tests. Next, you head to Sri Lanka, where you can do some damage as well. That would be huge,” Pollock added.

When will Team India play their next T20I series after T20 World Cup triumph?

Published

on

India national cricket team created history last week by becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India delivered a dominant performance in the final, defeating New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

With the tournament now over, fans are eager to know when the Men in Blue will return to T20I action and what lies ahead in their international schedule.

Historic T20 World Cup victory

India’s victory marked a historic milestone in international cricket. The team showcased an aggressive and fearless approach throughout the tournament, especially in the knockout stages.

During the final stages of the competition, India’s batting unit was in exceptional form. The team crossed the 250-run mark three times in their last four matches, underlining the dominance of their power-packed batting lineup.

Players across departments contributed to the success, with explosive batting displays, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding helping India lift the coveted trophy once again.

Focus shifts to IPL 2026

Following the World Cup triumph, attention now turns to the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The 19th edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin on March 28, where several Indian stars will represent their respective franchises.

The IPL will serve as a key platform for players to maintain match fitness and form before India resumes international cricket later in the year.

When will India play their next T20I series?

According to the current international calendar, India’s next T20I assignment will be a five-match series against England national cricket team in July 2026.

This series will be played in England and will mark India’s first T20I outing after their World Cup triumph. With a break after the IPL, selectors are expected to field a full-strength squad for the tour.

India vs England T20I series schedule

The five-match T20I series between India and England will be played across different venues in England:

  • July 1 – Chester-le-Street
  • July 4 – Old Trafford, Manchester
  • July 7 – Nottingham
  • July 9 – Bristol
  • July 11 – Southampton

Following the T20I series, both teams will also play three One-Day Internationals from July 14 to July 19, with matches scheduled in Birmingham, Cardiff, and London.

Jasprit Bumrah likely to skip T20Is

India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to feature in T20Is in the immediate future. The pacer is expected to prioritise the ODI format, with preparations already underway for the 2027 ODI World Cup to be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Interestingly, Bumrah has not played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup final, focusing primarily on T20Is during the past two years.

More matches before the England tour

Before the England series begins, India are also scheduled to play a one-off Test match and a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan national cricket team in June.

However, these matches will not include T20Is, making the England tour India’s next T20I assignment after their historic World Cup victory.

Should India Drop Varun Chakravarthy for Kuldeep Yadav in T20 World Cup Final vs New Zealand?

Published

on

Ahead of the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, India faces a crucial selection dilemma: whether to retain mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy or bring in wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav for the title clash against New Zealand national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Varun, who is India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament, had a disastrous outing in the semi-final against England cricket team, conceding 64 runs in four overs. The England batters, led by Jacob Bethell, attacked him relentlessly, hitting multiple sixes and putting India under pressure early in the innings.

Despite that onslaught, India managed to secure a narrow seven-run victory, booking their place in the final.

Varun Chakravarthy’s Form Under Scrutiny

While Varun has been one of India’s main wicket-taking threats in the tournament, his performances in the Super Eights stage have raised concerns.

  • Economy rate in Super Eights: 11.62
  • Runs conceded in semi-final: 64 in 4 overs
  • Struggled with control and consistency

Observers also noticed Varun appearing mentally unsettled during the semi-final, frequently discussing strategies with wicketkeeper Sanju Samson between deliveries. Analysts suggest he may be overthinking his variations, which has affected his rhythm.

India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel had earlier backed Varun to regain momentum, but with the final approaching, the team management must decide whether to continue backing him.

The Kuldeep Yadav Option

If India decides to make a change, Kuldeep Yadav could be the most natural replacement.

Reasons Kuldeep could be considered:

  • Provides left-arm wrist spin, offering a different angle.
  • Has strong experience in high-pressure ICC matches.
  • Known for troubling middle-order batters with flight and turn.

Against New Zealand, Kuldeep’s ability to break partnerships in the middle overs could be a major asset.

India’s Fifth Bowler Problem

Another concern for India has been their fifth bowling option.

All-rounder Shivam Dube has struggled with the ball in the tournament:

  • Economy rate: 14.12

If Varun remains out of form, India risk having two weak bowling options, which could prove costly in a high-scoring final.

Pitch Conditions at Narendra Modi Stadium

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium is expected to feature a mix of black and red soil, typically producing:

  • Good bounce
  • High-scoring conditions
  • Less assistance for spinners

Because of this, India might consider adding an extra fast bowler such as Mohammed Siraj.

This strategy worked earlier when South Africa national cricket team used an extra seamer effectively on the same surface during the Super Eights stage.

Washington Sundar: A Tactical Choice?

Another option is off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar.

New Zealand’s lineup includes several left-handers, and an off-spinner could be useful against them.

However, the challenge is who to drop.

India already has Axar Patel, who delivered an impressive performance in the semi-final. Dropping him after such a display appears unlikely.

What India’s Best XI Could Look Like

India’s team management, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, has three realistic options:

Option 1: Keep the Winning Combination

  • Back Varun Chakravarthy despite the poor semi-final performance.

Option 2: Replace Varun with Kuldeep Yadav

  • Strengthen the spin attack with a more experienced wrist-spinner.

Option 3: Play an Extra Seamer

  • Bring in Mohammed Siraj for better control on a batting-friendly pitch.

Final Verdict

While Varun Chakravarthy has been India’s top wicket-taker in the tournament, form and conditions could force India to rethink their strategy.

Kuldeep Yadav offers variety and experience, while Mohammed Siraj could strengthen the pace attack on a batting-friendly Ahmedabad surface. Ultimately, the decision will depend on pitch conditions, matchups, and India’s risk appetite in the biggest match of the tournament.

One thing is certain: the selection call could play a decisive role in determining who lifts the T20 World Cup trophy.
